NEPR Expands Tanglewood Broadcast Offerings on 88.5FM WFCR This Summer

July 7, 2016 Springfield, Mass.

For decades, New England Public Radio has partnered with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and WGBH Boston to air live broadcasts from Tanglewood, the BSO’s summer home in Lenox, Massachusetts, every Sunday afternoon of the season on 88.5FM WFCR. This year, the Sunday afternoon tradition has grown into a weekend-long affair; NEPR is excited to add music from Tanglewood to our Saturday afternoon line-up as well! Beginning at 1:00 p.m., Saturday’s broadcasts will feature performances from the previous week at Tanglewood, and some major star-power, including Emanuel Ax, Yo-Yo Ma and others throughout the summer.

The Tanglewood broadcast season gets underway this Sunday, July 10 at 2:00 p.m. with a special Boston Pops Orchestra concert, featuring conductor Keith Lockhart and famed actor, writer, director, and vocalist Seth MacFarlane performing both classics and hidden gems from the Great American Songbook. Live BSO concerts begin the following week on July 17 and continue every Sunday through August 28 with a start time of 2:30 p.m.

Saturday afternoons on WFCR will include music from Tanglewood beginning  Saturday, July 16 with Opening Night at Tanglewood, featuring violinist Joshua Bell (recorded July 8). Subsequent broadcasts continue every Saturday at 1:00PM through September 3.

The final concert of the season, Tanglewood on Parade (recorded August 2), will air on Sunday, September 4 at 2:30 p.m.

There’s nothing like spending a summer afternoon or evening in the Berkshires attending a world class concert,” said NEPR classical host Walter Carroll. “Great soloists like Jonathan Biss, Paul Lewis, Augustin Hadelich and Lisa Batiashvili, the Tanglewood Festival Chorus, and of course the Boston Symphony Orchestra.  And I have spent many happy Sunday afternoons in my own yard with live broadcasts of the concerts.  It’s second only to being there.”

Tanglewood broadcasts can be heard on 88.5FM and and throughout the Berkshires on: 101.1FM (Adams/North Adams), 98.7FM (Great Barrington), 98.3FM (Lee), 106.1FM (Pittsfield/Lenox), and 96.3FM (Williamstown).
