Beginning Saturday, November 7, the perennial public radio favorite, This American Life will be part of the regular NEPR News Network line-up at noon on Saturdays and New England Public Radio will introduce two new shows to the weekend line up.
The New Yorker Radio Hour, which will air at 11:00 a.m., is a new program presented by the magazine’s editor, David Remnick. According to WNYC Studios, which produces the program, “each episode features a diverse mix of interviews, profiles, storytelling, and an occasional burst of humor inspired by the magazine, and shaped by its writers, artists, and editors.” Upcoming episodes include interviews with the actress, comedian, and writer Amy Schumer, the musician and producer Robert Glasper, and the activist Gloria Steinem, among other leading voices from across the cultural and political landscape. The first episode of The New Yorker Radio Hour will air on Saturday, November 7.
On Sundays at 11:00 a.m., NEPR will replace the re-broadcast of Car Talk with another new show from WNYC, Freakonomics Radio, an outgrowth of the popular podcast of the same name. Host Stephen Dubner, and co-author Steven Levitt, who is a frequent guest, bring listeners their signature approach of applying economic theory to everything from sleeping better, to the upside of quitting, to the secret of finding a parking spot. Interviews with Nobel laureates, provocateurs, social scientists, and entrepreneurs make for an exciting, fast-paced hour of radio. The first episode will air on the NEPR News Network Sunday, November 8.
“We’re excited to offer our listeners these new public radio shows,” said John Voci, Executive Director for Programming and Content at NEPR. “The New Yorker Radio Hour features many of the leading contributors to the magazine in areas from politics to humor while Freakonomics expands upon the topics explored on the very popular podcast. Adding This American Life to the NEPR News Network line-up provides listeners with another opportunity to hear this long-standing favorite.”
The NEPR News Network offers a broad range of news, talk and culture related programs, including popular drive time shows like Morning Edition (6 – 9 a.m. M-F) and All Things Considered (4 – 6:30 p.m. M-F), interview programs like Fresh Air (2-3 p.m. M-Th), and TED Radio Hour (3-4 p.m. Sat), and storytelling shows like The Moth Radio Hour (1-2 p.m. Sat), giving public radio listeners an alternative to the classical music heard throughout the day on 88.5FM WFCR.
