New England Public Radio is thrilled to partner with Live Art Magazine on its third issue, which comes to Northampton’s Academy of Music Theatre on Friday, October 23 at 7:30 p.m.
Part of the national pop-up magazine movement, Live Art Magazine offers ephemeral, and memorable writing and stagecraft for one-night-only. Recording, filming and photography are forbidden – protecting works-in-progress from documentation so artists are free to push the boundaries of their art.
As part of the partnership, NEPR has produced a Live Art Magazine Podcast. Hosted by Live Art Magazine’s Editor-in-Chief, Amanda Herman, the podcast features three of the performers showing work at Live Art Magazine. The first episode, which is available for download today, features Jedediah Berry, author of “The Family Arcana: A Story in Cards.” Printed on a deck of playing cards, this gothic fable tells of a sprawling family fighting to preserve itself against the wiles of the knavish bank people, and against its own deep-buried secrets.A new podcast will be released on October 12 and 19 leading up to the live event on October 23. Podcast can be downloaded on iTunes, or by clicking here.
The live event on October 23 will showcase our some of our best local and regional writers, poets, artists, musicians, dancers, and filmmakers, including NEPR reporter Karen Brown’s new live radio piece, and work by Karen Skolfield, winner of the 2015 NEPR Arts & Humanities Award. Skolfield will trade witty, gorgeous poems on stage with fellow poet, and Smith College professor, Floyd Cheung.
Also contributing to Issue 3: Northampton’s indie folk/rock band The Sun Parade; Harvard’s 2015 writer in residence Peter Behrens; performer Rythea Lee; photographer Jessica Ingram; local Sports Illustrated and Boston Globe sports writer Jeff Wagenheim; humorist Seth Lepore, and the incredible Springfield Sci-tech High Band.
“NEPR is proud to partner with Live Arts Magazine on this series of podcasts profiling the rich and vibrant arts scene in the Pioneer Valley,” says John Voci, NEPR’s Executive Director for Programming. “This marks the beginning of what we hope is the station’s expansion of our coverage of local art and artists.”
