Both the United Independent and Green-Rainbow parties needed to win 3 percent of the vote in any Massachusetts state wide race this year to become official, and they did it. Evan Falchuk, United Independent’s founder and candidate for governor, says the next goal is to attract more candidates.
“We’re looking ahead to the 2016 elections, where but for the United Independent Party, the majority of our legislators would probably run unopposed again as has been the case over the last number of years,” says Falchuk. “We’re going to be fielding a really interesting, smart slate of candidates in 2016.”
Falchuk’s party needs to enroll about 43,000 voters to keep its official status beyond 2016, something he says is doable.
