The Springfield City Council on Monday evening is scheduled to approve the sale of two properties to MGM. This comes despite uncertainty over the company’s casino proposal.
There’s a $3.2 million price tag on two properties damaged in the 2011 tornado: the former Zanetti school and the Springfield State Armory. They’d be part of the resort casino MGM wants to build in Springfield.
MGM is going forward with the purchase, even though Massachusetts voters in November could repeal the state’s expanded gaming law.

Asked about a back-up plan for the properties if voters nix the casino law, a spokesperson says she didn’t know if the company had one, adding that MGM is “entirely optimistic…it will be successful in November.”
