Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker says a shortage of district court judges in Berkshire County is on his radar. He says it’s up to the state’s judicial nominating committee to recommend candidates for him to nominate. Baker says he’s hopeful that will happen early next year.
“The JNC is well aware of the issues associated with getting somebody on the ground, who’s local, who can see in the district court in Berkshire County,” Baker says. “It’s a very high priority for them and it’s a high priority for me.”
Some members of the Berkshire County legal community say a lack of judges has led to fewer court sessions and delays in cases. Baker made his comments Tuesday on a visit to Great Barrington.
