The Cubit Building in Holyoke’s “Innovation District” will become the site of a new Hospitality and Culinary Arts training program. Funded in part by MGM resorts, the program will be run by Holyoke Community College and Springfield Technical Community College. Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse says graduates will be able to work for any number of employers in the region.
“The skills they’re learning here aren’t necessarily tied to the success of MGM. It’s their own personal skill that they can transfer to any facility, ” Morse says.
MGM Springfield anticipates hiring 750 to 900 trained hospitality staff for its resort casino scheduled to open in Springfield in 2018. Holyoke Community College’s President says the new training center will open by this time next year.
