Demonstrators against the proposed Kinder Morgan pipeline took to the sidewalks of Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Friday to voice their concerns about the project.
About 30 protesters picketed outside of Kinder Morgan’s downtown Pittsfield offices. It was a mix of people from Massachusetts and New York upset by the idea of a natural gas pipeline running through their towns. One of them is Cheryl Rose of Dalton, Massachusetts.
“Just the construction alone is going to have a tremendous impact on the town in terms of vehicles and explosives and so on,” Rose says. “Also the air quality from the compressor station next door, which is right in Windsor, which is right up the hill from us.”
Kinder Morgan says it’s working to address the concerns of landowners. Supporters of the pipeline say it would help bring down New England’s relatively high natural gas prices..
