Ellen Wittlinger of Haydenville, Mass., writes about a tight-knit group of high school friends, heading toward their senior year. Jackie, Finn, Lucas and Lorna were born and raised in Provincetown. They know every street, every sand dune, every shack.
The opening scene takes place on a stormy day on a granite jetty that juts put into the Atlantic. Lorna — who never walked when she could race or cart-wheel — was swept off the rocks and carried out to sea.
Wittlinger tells New England Public Radio’s Jill Kaufman that Lorna is the heartbeat of the group, and she’s gone. But that’s only part of the story. Click the audio player above to hear the interview.
