Kinder Morgan will pay the state $640,000 for a portion of Otis State Forest, which it plans to use for its proposed New York to Connecticut pipeline.

The Massachusetts Department of Children and Families, which received heavy criticism after several high profile incidents a few years ago, is in line to receive a $27 million increase under Governor Charlie Baker’s budget proposal.
The proposal would bump up the pay of House Speaker Robert DeLeo and Senate President Stan Rosenberg by $45,000 each, as well as the Governor. Rosenberg said increasing the stipends for leadership positions is a long time coming.
As the overall population of Berkshire County has declined, so too has public school enrollment, which has dropped 22 percent in the last 15 years. With state funding largely tied to how many children a school system has, course offerings at many high schools have been cut back.
