Democratic State Senator Eric Lesser of Longmeadow sent a letter to President Trump this week, asking for federal support for a high-speed rail line between Springfield and Boston.
Lesser is a big believer that the rail line would boost the economy of Western Massachusetts and hopes the project may resonate with the president.
“He talked quite a lot on the campaign trail about infrastructure, about helping people who have been left out by the modern economy,” Lesser said. “This is a perfect example of a project that would put those types of communities to work and it would help a community like Western Mass., which is very similar in many respects to places in Ohio or Michigan or Pennsylvania.”
Those are states Trump won in the election.
Lesser, who worked in the White House for President Obama, also just reintroduced a bill in the state legislature, which would authorize a feasibility study of the train line.
