A bill that would give some lawmakers, judges and other state officials a large pay raise passed the Massachusetts Senate Thursday. It was approved by a 31-9 margin and came a day after the House also gave its okay.
The proposal would bump up the pay of House Speaker Robert DeLeo and Senate President Stan Rosenberg by $45,000 each.
Rosenberg said increasing the stipends for leadership positions is a long time coming.
“I just want to remind you, it had not been adjusted for 33 years,” Rosenberg said. “Most people get cost-of-living increases on their whole compensation package every year.”
Rosenberg said he has gotten previous cost-of-living increases on his base pay, but not on the extra money he makes as senate president.
Governor Charlie Baker, who would also get a raise in this bill, would not say this week if he will sign it.
