A group of clergy from across Massachusetts met in Northampton recently to grapple with how the opioid epidemic is affecting their congregations. They were also trained in how to administer the overdose reversal drug — Narcan. The Reverend Sarah Buteux is an associate pastor at First Churches.
In the past year, she’s presided over two funerals, children of congregants who died from overdoses. Buteux said she’s not entirely surprised her work now includes being trained in something like Narcan.
