Officials with some state governments across New England say a delay in new federal overtime rules for workers have little impact on them, or their employees.
New federal rules were to extend overtime benefits to 4 million more workers as of December 1st. But that is now in limbo after a federal judge in Texas halted implementation of the policy.
In Vermont, recent contract negotiations with more than 6,000 executive branch workers already extended overtime benefits to more pay grades.
“The impact that has is very much in line, in fact, it exceeds what the rule had stated,” said Tom Cheney, Vermont’s Commissioner of Human Resources. “The impact of the judicial decision is minimal on the state of Vermont.”
In Massachusetts, 93 percent of state workers also have overtime spelled out in their contracts. And Connecticut officials said very few state employees would be affected, if the new rules are ever put into place.
