Some western Massachusetts communities report early voter turn out on par with state figures. And others say they expect high turnout at the polls Tuesday.
In Pittsfield, 13 percent of registered voters turned out for early voting, well behind the state average of about 22 percent. But City Clerk Jody Phillips said she expected overall turnout to be comparable to the 2008 election.
“We were…68.9 percent here in Pittsfield,” Phillips said. “So I expect we’ll be at least 70 percent or so overall city-wide turnout [after Tuesday].”
Elsewhere in Western Mass., officials from Greenfield, Northampton and Ashfield have reported an early vote turnout of over 20 percent.
The Springfield elections office reported about 7,000 early votes, which accounts for less than 7 percent of registered voters in the city.
