The mother of a UMass Amherst student who died of a heroin overdose three years ago is suing the school.
Eric Sinacori got caught selling drugs but avoided charges by agreeing to become a confidential informant for UMass police.
As the Boston Globe reported, Sinacori later died of an overdose, his body found by his father.
Sinacori’s mother criticized the school for not letting her know of her son’s involvement with drugs. And now she’s suing UMass.
“Our client obviously is a mother who’s lost her son and who feels like there are parties who could’ve and should’ve done some things differently and they bear some responsibly for her loss,” attorney Luke Ryan said.
Ryan declined to say if there were any settlement talks with UMass before the lawsuit was filed.
UMass suspended and later ended the confidential informant program. A spokesman said in an email that UMass does not comment on pending legal matters.
The lawsuit also names Sinacori’s alleged drug dealer, who faces separate criminal charges.
