MGM kicked off a series of sessions Wednesday on how potential workers can get ready to apply for the nearly 3,000 positions at its Springfield casino.
The resort is not open for two more years, but MGM’s Marikate Murren said job seekers can now go online to see available jobs and training programs.
“So this a call to action to get into the system and to build their profile for individuals to really understand what their skill sets are now, and what we need for our jobs in the future,” says Murren.
Jaleesa Melvin recently returned to Springfield after living in Florida. She said she wants to eventually start her own restaurant, but is open to exploring other careers at the casino.
“Because I went down to Hard Rock Casino when I was in Tampa. It was kind of fun. I want to try it out now, I want to do some blackjack, I want to do poker, I want to do a little bit of that. I play poker on my phone sometimes,” Melvin said, laughing.
MGM says 20 such career sessions will be held through the end of this year, with most hiring not until summer 2018.
