Gazette Investigation Looks At Sub-Minimum Wage Pay At Chinese Restaurants

Several Chinese restaurants in Hampshire County, Massachusetts, are paying some immigrant workers significantly less than the minimum wage. Workers often get connected to these restaurants through employment agencies based in New York’s Chinatown.

Those are some of the findings of an investigative series out Thursday by Daily Hampshire Gazette reporter Amanda Drane. She said the practice is not unique to western Massachusetts.
