At a public hearing Thursday Night in Lenox, Highway Administrator Tom Timlin said some toll-collectors are being retrained for other jobs on the Turnpike.
“We made an educational fund available, so if somebody had an interest completely outside of the transportation realm, we would fund it, the union would then give it to folks if they wanted to do something that maybe they are interested in,” Timlin said
The state has said about 85 toll collectors will be given other jobs, while another 200 are retiring.
More than 100 others were hired after a deal was struck between their union and the state. They will be out of a job at the end of October.
