The presidential campaign is getting pretty much all the attention right now, but voters in both Vermont and New Hampshire will also pick new governors this year.
In the Granite State, Democratic Governor Maggie Hassan is leaving her post to challenge Republican Kelly Ayotte for a US Senate seat. New Hampshire Public Radio’s senior political reporter Josh Rogers has a rundown of the candidates looking to replace her.
In neighboring Vermont, incumbent Peter Shumlin is stepping down. On the Democratic side, former state Senator Matt Dunne faces transportation secretary Sue Minter. Other state lawmakers have said they’re exploring runs. For the GOP, former Wall Street executive Bruce Lisman is taking on Lieutenant Governor Phil Scott. Vermont Public Radio’s Peter Hirschfeld says Scott has a likely advantage in the race.
