Prosecutors and attorneys say fewer district court judges in Berkshire County due to retirements are leading to delays in cases being heard and out-of-town judges coming in to cover sessions. State Representative Tricia Farley-Bouvier says she’s been after the last two governors and the Governor’s Council, which reviews judicial nominations, for most of the four years she’s been in office.
“It’s important that we have equal access to justice,” Farley-Bouvier says. “Equal access means that people from Berkshire County are sitting on the benches in Berkshire County and that we need to move this process forward and put pressure on that process.”
Governor Charlie Baker’s office is not saying when he plans to nominate a new Berkshire County judge.
