In Pittsfield, Dan Bianchi was the only incumbent mayor in western Massachusetts to lose re-election Tuesday. The outgoing mayor has one big priority in mind for his final two months in office.
Bianchi who was running for his third term, lost by 20 percentage points to City Clerk Linda Tyer.
During his campaign, Bianchi repeatedly touted The Berkshire Innovation Center, a project to attract businesses from the life science industry to Pittsfield. He says with his remaining time in office, he wants to work with the state to secure the funding needed to get the center’s construction started.
“They (the state) will ultimately, hopefully will be able to fill that funding gap and actually create an innovation center that is better than what we anticipated,” Bianchi says.
Bianchi says the innovation center and the new Taconic High School are his proudest accomplishments while he’s been mayor.
