What made The Short List this week?
- This week Springfield Mayor Dominic Sarno announced he’s in talks with the owners of the Pawtucket Red Sox about moving to Springfield. He says this would be a big deal since they’re the Triple-A Team for the Red Sox.
- President Obama made a dramatic turn-around with an announcement to keep more troops in Afghanistan. With Westover in our region and many active duty military this could have very real consequences in our region. Congressman Jim McGovern says he was disappointed.
- Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker unveiled legislation yesterday he says will address part of the opioid crisis. One of his proposals: allow medical providers to involuntarily commit drug addicts for 72 hours without a court order. Some medical professionals are skeptical it’ll be effective and wonder if there will always be treatment beds available.
