Westfield State University says a nearly ten month long search to replace disgraced former president Evan Dobelle is down to three finalists.
The candidates include the head of the Ethical Culture Fieldston School in New York, a former provost at California State University and a current provost at Framingham State University. Interim president Elizabeth Preston decided against seeking the permanent position. University Trustee and search committee head Steven Marcus says his group wants what he calls an ambassador who would be to lift the dark cloud created by the financial scandal involving former president Dobelle.
“We wanted to make sure that these candidates that we’re bringing to campus are as pure as we can get, and that they’re honorable, ethical leaders,” says Marcus
All three candidates will meet with students and faculty beginning next week. Marcus says Westfield State’s Board of Trustees will meet later in October to recommend its final choice to the state’s Commissioner of Higher Education.
