In a few weeks, the company Kinder Morgan plans to file its federal application to build a natural gas pipeline through New York, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey is getting her two cents in. She sent a letter to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission – or FERC – this week. In it, she outlined her request for the state Department of Public Utilities to slow down the process of approving contracts between Kinder Morgan and several utilities that will take gas from their pipeline. The DPU denied that request. But Healey is not appealing DPU’s decision to approve the contracts. We asked her why she’s not appealing, and also spoke about new regulations on e-cigarettes that take effect this week.
