State gambling regulators are raising some concerns after one of only two candidates for a southeastern Massachusetts casino withdrew its application.
Commissioner Gayle Cameron worried what message KG Urban Enterprise’s decision to pull out could send the remaining applicant.
“It’s a little unique to have one applicant,” Cameron said. “This letter alone points out some of the risks. So I would think they may want to talk to staff about this.”
Commissioner James McHugh was clearly annoyed by KG Urban’s change of heart. He worried they might reapply before the September 30th deadline.
“My thought was that if this withdrawal particularly, given this history, and all the extensions and everything else that went into this,” McHugh said, “we might want to think about saying this is the end of you.”
KG Urban Enterprises told the gaming commission on Wednesday it was withdrawing from the process because it didn’t have enough funding.
