President Obama is honoring the Marine sergeant from Springfield killed in last week’s attack in Chattanooga.
The president mentioned Thomas Sullivan and the other victims during a speech Tuesday at the Veterans Of Foreign Wars convention. Obama brought up Sullivan’s love of Boston sports teams — and his bravery.
“In battle, said a comrade, Sully was just everything a Marine should be,” the president said. “In two tours in Iraq, he earned a Combat Action Ribbon, for his wounds — two Purple Hearts. When he was warned that a gunman was there in Chattanooga, he ran in, so that others could live.”
The president then quoted a posting on the Facebook page of the Springfield bar owned by Sullivan’s brother. It said, “He was our hero and he will never be forgotten.”
Rest In Peace Gunnery SGT. Thomas Sullivan. Anyone who went to Holy Cross School, Cathedral High School or grew up in…
