Family members from the Pashtun region of Pakistan, where honor killings still sometimes take place, must contend with the actions of their daughter — a student at Smith College who falls in love with an American Jew –which could bring dishonor and shame upon them. Our summer fiction series continues with “A Sister to Honor” by Lucy Ferriss.
Writer-in-Residence at Trinity College in Hartford, Ferriss knew she wanted to write about the issues of honor and family for this book, her tenth. But she had not yet been to Pashtun. During a fascinating– and dangerous — visit there, the plot for “A Sister to Honor” came to her.
