Unofficial results show former White House aide Eric Lesser appears to have narrowly won a Democratic primary for state Senate. But it may not be over.
Out of more than 16,000 votes cast in the First Hampden and Hampshire Senate District, the tally shows Lesser beat his closest opponent by fewer than 200.
That opponent is Springfield City Councilor Tim Allen, who said he called Lesser last night.
“To just congratulate him on a great campaign, and tell him I’m pursuing my legal options,” Allen said.
What that means, Allen wasn’t sure. It had been a long campaign, and a long night and he was walking home from his election party because, he says, he thought it’d be a good night to take a walk.
For his part, Lesser says he’s moving ahead to November.
“We’re very grateful for all the support we’ve gotten,” Lesser said. “And it was a squeaker and now it’s on to the general election.”
If he remains the nominee, Lesser faces Republican Deb Boronski.
The incumbent senator in this seat, Gale Candaras, is running unopposed for Hampden County Register of Probate.
