The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado touched down just north of Boston.

Revere Deputy Fire Chief Mike Viviano says the fire department in that coastal city has received dozens of calls reporting partial building and roof collapses, and downed trees and power lines.

Viviano says there are no immediate reports of deaths of serious injuries. Another city official said many buildings sustained damage, including City Hall.

Meantime, Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick is not offering any specific funding yet to help revere clean-up. but the governor pledged support.

“The community of Revere should know, as other communities have from our experiences elsewhere, that we are going to do whatever we need to and whatever we can to help them stand up again,” Patrick said.

Patrick says the state’s emergency management agency is working in Revere to help in any way the agency can. The governor called it a “great blessing” that no one was hurt , which he says was “quite remarkable” given the extent of the damage.

According to his office, Patrick planned to visit Revere Monday afternoon.

Communities across the U.S. are cleaning up after strong storms destroyed homes, knocked out power for thousands of people and toppled power lines and trees.
