MGM told Massachusetts Gaming officials Thursday that they’ll be ready to start construction in Springfield almost immediately if voters choose to keep the state’s casino law intact.

MGM officials say they have been working with local agencies on a number of issues such as utilities for the proposed casino, traffic improvement and starting the permitting process. MGM’s Hunter Clayton says Novemer’s ballot question on the casino law has slowed the project some.

“Our goal here is to take the necessary steps to advance these early works packages so come November, we’re literally in a position to commence work,” Clayton says.

With construction on the I-91 viaduct scheduled to start this fall, close to the casino site, MGM says it has been working with the state to coordinate construction schedules in order to lessen the impact of the two projects on motorists.

The company has also have been working with Springfield officials to make sure that during all this construction, there would be enough parking spots downtown for the public.
