The city of Springfield has been served with a federal subpoena regarding contracts with an Agawam-based construction company.
Springfield received the federal subpoena within the last month, according to Mayor Domenic Sarno’s spokesperson Jim Leydon, who offered few other details of the probe. Leydon confirms that the subpoena is focused on contracts with the Zielinski Brothers construction company of Agawam, but says the city does not know whether the investigation is open or closed. Meanwhile, the FBI neither confirms nor denies any investigation. Zielinski Brothers referred inquiries to their lawyer, who could not be reached for comment.
According to the Republican newspaper, the city’s lawyer has turned over documents to the FBI, but has had no other contact with the agency or the U.S attorney’s office. Zielinski Brothers has received city contracts for work at several Springfield parks in the past three years, according to public records.
