Weather forecasters say 2014 is likely to get off to a snowy and frigid start. A slow-moving Nor’easter is predicted to drop 6 to 10 inches of snow on western New England between tomorrow night and Friday morning. Bill Simpson is a spokesperson for the National Weather Service in Taunton, Massachusetts. He says the track of the storm should spare the area from the worst of the precipitation. 

“This won’t be a classic Nor’easter in the sense it moves up off of Cape Cod. It will be probably 50 to 100 miles further east. How that affects the Pioneer Valley, it’s a little bit less snow amounts. The jackpot will be from Boston to Providence and across the cape and islands.”, Simpson says. 

As the storm winds down, Simpson says temperatures are expected to plunge. Highs on Friday could struggle to get out of the single digits while it could be 10 to 15 below zero by Saturday Morning.
