Massachusetts leads an energy efficiency score card for the third year in a row. The American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE) every year ranks all the states. The group says Massachusetts scores high because it has the nation’s most ambitious energy saving goals.
“We’re very proud of the work we’ve accomplished,” said Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick at the ACEEE’s press conference, “We recognize that it’s important for us and other states and for the nation not to rest on our laurels and that the ACEEE is continuing to raise the bar and we are looking forward to competing to meet those new higher standards and exceed them.”
Patrick says one key reason for why Massachusetts is so energy efficient is the state’s decision to set aggressive energy savings goals with utility companies.
The state is closely trailed in the rankings by California and New York… which both score higher than Massachusetts on transportation and building energy codes. The score card says if Massachusetts wants to keep its number one spot, it will need to work on those other areas of energy efficiency.
