A house fire in Springfield last night uncovered what city police call a “sophisticated” marijuana growing operation. Springfield police sergeant John Delaney says narcotics officers found over 100 marijuana plants he says would haveproduced pot worth $5,000 to $6,000 a pound. Delaney says two men have been arrested.
“Their marijuana grow went up in smoke, along with their operation, and they’re going to be facing charges that could get them mandatory sentencing.”
Delaney says the suspects face drug trafficking charges. He declined to comment on whether police knew of the growing operation before the fire or if it was part of larger drug trafficking activity in the area.
