The BSO has announced its 2013 Tanglewood summer season in the Berkshires. It features an opera double-bill, the BSO performing a score to a famous musical film re-mastered and more

The Tanglewood season is filled with guest conductors and soloists, including opening night, July 5th, with star violinist, Joshua Bell in an all-Tchaikovsky program. The season ends, as it has for years, the final Sunday of August, with Beethoven’s 9th symphony conducted this summer by veteran maestro, Bernard Haitink. In between highlights include choreographer Mark Morris directing an opera double bill of Henry Purcell and Benjamin Britten with the Tanglewood Music Center, the  Boston Symphony performing Leonard Bernstein’s score to the newly re-mastered film of “Westside Story,” and Yo-Yo Ma will be joined by American string wonders Edgar Meyer, Chris Thile and Stuart Duncan performing from their recording, “The Goat Rodeo Sessions.” in addition, Keith Lockhart and John Williams will take their turns on the podium with the Boston Pops. The Festival of Contemporary Music will be held August 8th through 12th. The Tanglewood popular artist series will be announced in January and tickets for the whole Tanglewood season go on sale January 27th.
