The Romney campaign says in press release that he will announce his choice of a running mate Saturday morning in Norfolk, Va., at the Nauticus Museum following a tour of the USS Wisconsin.
There has been a lot of speculation about who Romney’s choice will be, but the presumed current short list includes Ohio Rep. Rob Portman, former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty and Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan.
The Associated Press reports on the recent attention on Ryan:
“Speculation has focused in recent days on Ryan, the seven-term congressman. Conservative pundits have been urging Romney to choose Ryan in large part because of his authorship of a House-backed budget plan that seeks to curb overall entitlement spending and changes Medicaid into a voucher-like system to save costs.”
The announcement is scheduled for 9 a.m. EDT, and will kick off a four-day bus tour through several swing states: Virginia, Florida, Ohio and North Carolina.
We will update as more details become available.
