They say lighting doesn’t strike in the same place twice, right? It’s also a popular belief that you’re more likely to get hit by lighting than to win the lottery.
So, I think we’re safe in saying that Delma Kinney, an Atlanta man who will turn 51 Dec. 5, has beat the odds, winning a million-dollar lottery twice in three years.
In 2008, Kinney won $1 million playing another instant game. The single father of three set aside a portion of his winnings to save for their college education.
With his recent win, Kinney says he plans to donate a portion to charity.
Kinney told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he bought the ticket when he went into a Chevron to buy cold medicine.
“I was just out and stopped for cold medicine,” Kinney told the AJC. “I sat in the car with the ticket, and when I saw the matching numbers, I knew.”
And on those odds: The Georgia Lottery lists the odds of winning a million dollars playing Super Millions are one in 5,040,000. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration puts the odds of being struck by lighting in any given year as one in one million.
