An estimated 40% of all Americans have a loved one with a drug or alcohol problem. “Allies in Recovery” is a program based in Northampton, Massachusetts which treats substance abuse by working with the addict’s family and friends. It uses a technique called CRAFT- or Community Reinforcement And Family Training. The approach is featured in a documentary series airing this week on HBO.
WFCR’s Karen Brown spoke with the Director of Allies in Recovery, Dominique Simone Levine. She says families and friends of addicts have unique needs.
