Thousands of deaf Americans say being deaf is more than a physical condition; it’s a culture. The history of deaf culture is the subject of a new documentary airing on PBS this week. “Through Deaf Eyes” is produced by Florence, Massachusetts residents Larry Hott and his wife, Diane Garey. They’ve been producing award-winning documentaries for more than twenty years. Hott — who is not deaf — told WFCR’s Tina Antolini, when he started work on the film, he surprised by what he didn’t know about deaf culture.
