NEPR is excited to be part of Live Art Magazine’s Issue 4 – and as part of our collaboration we’re launching another edition of our podcast series taking a look at the creative process of some of the artists you’ll see this year on the Academy Stage.

Jo Dery is an animator and multi-media artist based in Brattleboro, Vermont. Driven by her experimentation with visual storytelling, her works are often inspired by autobiographical experience.
For Live Art, she’ll be presenting the first chapter of a long term project inspired by the history of the women in her family. On October 21st, she’ll present a multi-media, poetic essay drawn from the life of her great-grandmother, who read tea leaves.
Interested in themes of “prophecy and fate,” Jo delves into the matriarchy of her family line and explores how their history resonates over generations and through time.
Her short films have screened at the Ann Arbor Film Festival, the International Film Festival Rotterdam, and the Eyeworks Festival of Experimental Animation.
Earning her BFA in Film/Animation/Video from the Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts from Goddard College, she is currently an Assistant Professor of Film Studies at Keene State College in southern New Hampshire.
At Live Art, she’ll be joined on stage by performer Chrissy Wolpert, founder of the all-female “Assembly of Light Choir,” based in Providence, Rhode Island. They’ll be accompanied by music from multi-instrumentalist Sakiko Mori.
