There could be a thawing in the dispute over how to hook-up Massachusetts’ rural communities to broadband internet. The collaborative of towns known as Wired West met Wednesday with the Massachusetts Broadband Institute in an attempt to resolve differences in how to manage the network.
MBI, which controls millions in state money, has called into question Wired West’s funding model and plans for shared ownership.
Wired West board member Steve Nelson says his group had an opportunity to air their grievances at the meeting.
“I think that we moved past that to start to engage in how can we either resolve our differences or at least define them better,” Nelson says.
Nelson says the talks are scheduled to resume next week.
For its part, MBI called the gathering “constructive,” and says it will continue to meet in good faith.
